C. H. Spurgeon said, “Whenever God determines to do a great work, He first sets His people to pray.” At Lakewood we believe in the power of prayer and God wants to do great things in and through us, as He creates in us Christ-likeness. The goal of the Prayer Ministry is to implement ways to incorporate prayer into the life of the church.
One of its primary functions, at present, is to pray during the Sunday morning services. At least two people pray on each Sunday morning, at which time they seek God’s power and anointing for the services. Special emphasis is placed on praying for God’s glory to be revealed, obedience to His Word and decisions to be made for Christ, such as salvation and sanctification.
The Prayer Ministry team members are urged to pray for each other, the congregation and church on a regular basis. Plans are underway to organize a “Circle of Love,” a method to encourage church families to pray for one another. We are striving to be obedient to God by the power of the Holy Spirit, and to catch a vision for what He can do if we will pray! “It is written…My house will be called a house of prayer.” Matt. 21:13.
